Vinous Neal Martin - 13 Feb 24
The 1995 Cuvée Madame from Château Coutet is a vintage that I have encountered twice before, and this is consistent with those. Iridescent in amber color, the bouquet feels mature with complex and alluring tangerine, nectarine, gingerbread and saffron aromas. The palate has maintained that waxy texture, perhaps a little lighter than the bottle in December 2018. However, that mineral core remains fully intact, fresh and perhaps just a little more petrolly than I recollect on the finish. This is drinking perfectly now. Tasted at Clarette in London at a private dinner.

Bordeaux

Red Bordeaux, globally renowned, is crafted in France’s Bordeaux region from grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These full-bodied wines feature dark fruit flavours, earthy and spicy notes, and often benefit from ageing. Top producers include Château Margaux, Château Latour, and Château Lafite Rothschild. White Bordeaux, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, offers styles from crisp to rich, with citrus and tropical notes. Sweet Bordeaux wines, like Sauternes, are famed for their rich sweetness and flavours of apricot and honey, with Château d’Yquem as a leading producer.
